Many years ago I worked at a little summer stock theatre in Forrestburgh, NY. It was a jewel of a place that put on some great theatre, in a barn. Yup, an old converted barn. They had built it up and put the dressing rooms underneath. I actually slept in what used to be the chicken coup. The nearest store was 20 minutes away, and even that was just a WalMart. I work with this tiny Japanese Costume Designer, Shima. She said every day "Shikata Ga Nai" loosely translated, "Make do with with what you have." We made some great pieces that year. We all made these shirts, it was our team logo. Now that t-shirt has saved my dying dress form. It's literally holding it all together on the inside. Some day I'll get a new form, but not in the cards right now, so "Shikata Ga Nai", I'll make do with what I have. |
